Aparna Sanjay became the new executive director of the Loudoun Laurels Foundation at the start of the new year — she served as operations director and succeeds Nikki Daruwala after four years of leadership.

The Sheriff's Office closed Waxpool Road from Broderick Drive to Rt.
28 and a block of Pacific Boulevard after reports of an (8-inch) gas line break forced an evacuation. Washington Gas crews and the Hazardous Materials Response Team remain on scene.

A new report shows that Virginia plumbers earn about $59,560 a year, slightly below the national rate of $62,970, while forecasting continued demand in a growing sector.

Loudoun County offers free behavioral health training this month.
Mental Health First Aid classes (adult sessions on Jan. 14-15 and youth sessions on Jan. 28-29) at its Sterling office join online Rapid REVIVE! on Jan. 8 and QPR on Jan. 26; registration is required.
Inova Health System hosts six blood drives this month during National Blood Donor Month.
