- ➤ Shoppers seeking bargains can bid on government surplus items including ranges, metal shelving, bleachers, and office equipment at Loudoun County’s first 2026 auction, which closes at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15; pick-up is by appointment at 14 Cardinal Park Drive, Suite 106 & Leesburg. - ➤ Purcellville has set mandatory water restrictions effective immediately because its water supply is low and conditions have worsened to severe drought. The town warns that fines will start at $100 for a first offense if residents and businesses do not follow the rules. Blue Ridge Leader

- ➤ Health officials report that a severe flu strain drove respiratory illnesses to account for 22% of ER visits during the week ending Jan. 3, and local urgent care centers have extended virtual hours to help ease pressure on emergency rooms. Inside Nova
