COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Leesburg Parks and Recreation is asking for volunteers to serve on the Flower and Garden Festival jury (to review vendor applications with a Jan. 20 deadline). The annual festival is planned for Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19 in historic downtown Leesburg.  Blue Ridge Leader

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Leesburg welcomed news on Tuesday when the Town Council approved converting the two-lane drive-thru at the former John Marshall Bank on South King Street to one lane, paving the way for the first Chicken Salad Chick in Loudoun County. The new restaurant will offer 45 to 50 inside seats (providing a cozy dining option).  Loudoun Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Loudoun County School Board will reconsider attendance zone changes approved last month for Madison’s Trust Elementary following heavy feedback from parents and staff — the board will delay the special permission period starting Jan. 20 and reconvene on Jan. 28.  Loudoun Now
  • Leesburg’s Department of Economic Development will host a youth career expo for students and recent graduates on Feb. 25 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Loudoun County High School (415 Dry Mill Road) and will move the event to Feb. 26 if weather causes delays.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • The Loudoun County School Board will vote again on Jan. 28 on a rezoning plan that transfers about 400+ students and 35 teachers from Trust Elementary in Brambleton. The board aims to address enrollment needs with this reconsideration.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • The Loudoun County School Board reviewed the 2025 financial report showing a $195 million rise in program costs amid shifting funding from county, state, and federal sources. The division’s budgeting process starts today with Superintendent Spence’s presentation.  Loudoun Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Loudoun Environmental Commission invites nominations for its fourth annual Environmental Excellence Awards to honor local environmental leaders. Nominations — open for projects from January 2025 to February 2026 — are due by March 2 and awards will be presented in April at a Board of Supervisors meeting.  Blue Ridge Leader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Virginia Supreme Court heard an appeal against the SCC's approval of Dominion Energy’s 9.4-mile Aspen to Golden transmission line, set to finish by June 2028. County officials and the Lansdowne Conservancy proposed burying part of the line to address environmental and aesthetic concerns.  Loudoun Now

  • Loudoun County’s Unmet Housing Needs Unit Midway Rental Program is accepting applications for lower-than-market rental apartments at The William in South Riding; households earning 50-80% of the Area Median Income must meet income and credit requirements.
