  • Leesburg’s Parks and Recreation Department seeks volunteer jurors for the Flower and Garden Festival vendor selections — applicants must apply by Jan. 20 and the 36th annual festival will take place April 18-19 downtown.  Loudoun Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Restaurateur Christian Puccio opened Oak & Ember Tasting Room and Market on Little River Turnpike in Aldie in early January. The new venue provides tasting and market experiences for local food enthusiasts.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • A sign now hangs above Curry Pizza House in Loudoun County as construction continues at the site in Loudoun Station center off Shellhorn Road near the new Starbucks + company officials have not yet announced an opening date.  The Burn

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Loudoun County Public Schools Superintendent Aaron Spence presented a $2.1 billion fiscal year 2027 budget proposal that raises spending 5.3% with increased staff pay and benefits. The School Board will review the plan Jan. 20, Jan. 22, and Jan. 28 with a public hearing Jan. 29 and a vote set for Feb. 3.  Loudoun Now
  • On Thursday night, the school board reinstated attendance zone boundary changes from last month amid disputes from parents in Brambleton and The Grant at Willowsford, saying delays in registration and bus planning could worsen if not resolved. Superintendent Aaron Spence noted that the changes were made immediately after the budget presentation.  Loudoun Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Leesburg Town Council voted Tuesday to make the Pride rainbow crosswalk permanent at Harrison Street and the W&OD Trail after the Loudoun Pride Foundation asked to delay its removal. Under the new policy, nonprofits will sponsor long-term displays and cover maintenance costs using city guidelines & local approvals.  Loudoun Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Picklr, a large indoor pickleball facility in Sterling, is set to open this spring in the former Marshall's space at Cascades Marketplace. The venue will feature 10 courts, a pro shop, event space and an academy offering programs for adults and juniors.  The Burn
