BUSINESS NEWS

  • Doughlab doughnut shop closed its doors at the end of last year after serving customers at the Cascades Overlook center in Sterling and in downtown Leesburg. The 800 sqft space (formerly Abbott’s Frozen Custard) is now available for a new tenant.  The Burn

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Loudoun Del. JJ Singh introduced a package at the General Assembly session to make college more affordable; it would freeze undergraduate tuition for two years and add funding to state colleges. The bills must pass committee reviews and both legislative chambers before reaching Gov. Abigail Spanberger (to be decided).  Loudoun Now
  • Local school officials recommended reallocating over ($17 million) from completed construction projects to cover rising costs at Waterford Elementary, Banneker, and the service center. The proposal, presented Tuesday, now awaits review by the School Board and Board of Supervisors.  Loudoun Now
  • Loudoun County Public Schools reported on Jan. 15 that enrollment will continue to fall while more students receive special education and support services; projections show a decrease from 80,517 this year to about 77,044 by fiscal year 2032.  Loudoun Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Senate committee approved the bill to create a state park at Oak Hill today and sent it to the Finance Committee for review. Gov. Youngkin and local officials back the plan to preserve President Monroe’s historic estate without using General Fund dollars.  Loudoun Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Reston Hospital Center broke ground on a new 14,000-sqft ER & imaging center in Leesburg, which will house 11 patient rooms, a trauma bay and outpatient imaging tests, and is set to open by fall near local retailers on Edwards Ferry Road.  Blue Ridge Leader

SPORTS NEWS

  • A national pickleball franchise will open a new indoor facility at Cascades Marketplace this spring (designed for local players) to offer a dedicated space for learning and play.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
