COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Loudoun County government surplus auction in Leesburg features items for families including wooden playhouses, toy trucks, and seesaws along with office furniture and storage boxes. Bidding ends at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 — items must be picked up by appointment at 14 Cardinal Park Drive.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • Construction crews have been hired to prepare the vacant lot at 44970 Russell Branch Parkway for Xavo Motor Club near Topgolf and XCAL, a 128,000 sqft center featuring a restaurant, theater, auto showroom, storage garages, and lounge. Work is set to begin this summer (designed by Architecture, Incorporated).  The Burn
  • The Loudoun Food Provider Group met with county partners — including community organizations — to coordinate a countywide response to rising food insecurity. The group will work to expand food access for local families.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Leesburg Economic Development reported increased out-of-county visits and low commercial vacancies in 2025 — signs of a healthy local business climate. Director Russel Seymour said improved data tracking helped target marketing and support growing demand for flex space.  Loudoun Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Monday, Feb. 9, LCPS Superintendent Aaron Spence presented the fiscal year 2027 budget to the Board of Supervisors featuring nearly $2.1 billion in funding and a $105 million local tax increase. Supervisors questioned teacher staffing and enrollment trends and will review further proposals in upcoming work sessions.  Loudoun Now
  • The Loudoun Education Foundation presented its annual report to the School Board Tuesday evening, reporting $3.7 million raised in 2025, $2 million spent on student programs, nearly 47,500 weekend meals provided + $200,000 in teacher support grants.   • On Feb. 9, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors was briefed on the school division's budget and a proposal to station deputies at elementary schools (a measure aimed at enhancing campus security). They will review the details in upcoming meetings.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • On Monday, LCPS Superintendent Aaron Spence said during a budget hearing that the division was told a grant would not be renewed due to an attestation on non-citizen students, but a Department of Education spokesperson later said no funding was withheld (calling the report fake news).  Loudoun Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local data from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office shows that overdoses dropped 48% in 2025 with 47 cases — 11 fatal — compared to 91 cases and 14 fatal cases in 2024. Increased public awareness and access to NARCAN helped reduce opioid incidents.  Loudoun Now
