  • The Virginia Valley Vipers basketball team collected 1,307 lbs of food at a recent drive at Giant Food in Purcellville + benefiting a local nonprofit.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

  • Loudoun Credit Union opened its new flagship branch at 6 West Market St. in downtown Leesburg — the move expands local banking options for residents.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

CULTURE NEWS

  • Leesburg launches a special webpage to mark its 250th celebration of American independence, offering history, videos, and story maps as well as details on book talks and exhibits at Thomas Balch Library (content will be updated throughout the year).  Blue Ridge Leader
  • A new exhibition, Art in Flight, featuring paintings by local artist Megan O’Hanlin is on display at the Leesburg Executive Airport, where visitors can enjoy bold works celebrating femininity and nostalgia (open daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.) through May.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • The Journey to Freedom sign was unveiled on Feb. 26 at Loudoun Museum on Loudoun Street as part of the final installation of a Black history mural in Leesburg — a nod to our local heritage.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • The new Pinstack venue in Loudoun nears completion as its sign is now on Russell Branch Parkway & State Road 28, ending confusion that the tower might be a data center. The Texas-based chain will open this summer at Kincora with a full-service restaurant and bar.  The Burn
  • Robert Duvall, a cherished actor known locally as Bobby Duvall, died at his Brynley Farm one day after Valentine’s Day in Fauquier County. He was remembered for his film legacy and community support (including conservation efforts) in the region.  Blue Ridge Leader

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local officials say a proposed change to the school funding formula may cut state funds by $31.5 million a year for Loudoun County starting in 2028 — state legislators will meet in the coming weeks to finalize the proposal.  Loudoun Now
  • Norah McCormick, a senior at Loudoun Valley High School and the Loudoun Academy of Science, was named one of over 5,000 candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, an honor recognizing academic excellence and leadership (with 600 semifinalists to be chosen this spring and finalists announced this summer).  Blue Ridge Leader
  • Marsteller Middle School principal Lisa Warner was named Outstanding Middle School Principal of Virginia for her work improving student achievement and building strong teacher relationships.   • At a Special School Board Meeting today at 5:15 p.m., the board will review Sheriff Mike Chapman’s proposal to add school resource officers to elementary schools (adding 15 each year to cover all 61) as critics and supporters weigh a projected annual cost of $17 million.  Loudoun Now
