BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new Dollar Tree has taken an 11,750 square foot space in Battlefield Shopping Center and might be moving from its current location—no opening date has been set yet.  The Burn
  • Steve and Rita Baker from Bakerture Photo and Video want to open Magnolia Rose 1880, an event venue on 50 acres near Lovettsville that will host up to 199 guests and limit events to 100 a year. Some residents worry the venue will bring extra traffic and noise, and the Board of Supervisors will review the plan at its April 15 meeting—while local wedding businesses support the project.  Loudoun Now

CRIME NEWS

  • The Sheriff’s Office is looking for two men who robbed a north Loudoun convenience store on Route 15 near the Point of Rocks Bridge just before 5 p.m. on March 14th—one wore a ski mask and showed a handgun as he took cigarettes while the other helped him flee in a blue Ford Escape with a spare tire on the rear passenger side—officials ask anyone with information to call.  Loudoun Now
  • A person of interest has recounted the moments before and after South Riding student Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student, was last seen heading toward a Punta Cana beach after a party on March 6, and Loudoun County is investigating her disappearance (the account was provided to local prosecutors).  WTOP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Loudoun County Department of Housing and Community Development invites Leesburg residents to send comments on its Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Annual Action Plan for federal housing and community development funds until April 9, 2025 — residents may also speak at a public hearing on that day.  Loudoun County
  • On March 13th, county supervisors cut the personal property tax rate on vehicles from $4.15 to $3.09 during the final work session for the fiscal year 2026 budget—this change will save residents between $14 and $368 per car. The board also approved using grant funds to cover full tuition for eligible childcare programs as part of the meeting.  Loudoun Now

  • Loudoun County urges local residents to explore affordable housing options at the free 15th annual Northern Virginia Housing Expo, which will be held on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Meridian High School (121 Mustang Alley in Falls Church) where workshops, an exhibit hall, and one-on-one financial coaching sessions will be offered.  Blue Ridge Leader
