CRIME NEWS

  • Eleven days after the missing 20 year old Sudiksha Konanki disappeared from South Riding, investigators expanded their search using jet skis — and questioned the person last seen with her in the Dominican Republic on Monday.  WTOP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Construction has started on the Northern Virginia Science Center in Loudoun at the Kincora development near the intersection of Route 7 and State Road 28—featuring five halls named FLOW, HELIOS, WONDER, HUMAN, and HABITAT. When finished in late 2026 the 70,000 s.f. center is expected to draw over 300,000 visitors each year.  The Burn
  • Northern Virginia Community College has launched a $1 million scholarship pledge to help laid-off federal workers re-skill through its NOVAnext program. Applicants laid off on or after Feb. 1 who live in the NVCC service area can take advantage of 14 courses + online workshops designed to help them earn new certifications and build skills for local jobs.  Loudoun Now

FINANCE NEWS

  • Jennifer Ivey, an Ashburn woman, won a $5 million scratch-off lottery prize at a 7 Eleven store on Pleasant Valley Road by choosing the one-time cash option of $3,125,000 before taxes + the store earned a $10,000 bonus from the sale. Her win is the second top prize in the 100X the Money series + Lottery funds support Loudoun County K-12 education.  Loudoun Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Loudoun County is holding its first Household Hazardous Waste event of 2025 on March 22 at Leesburg Park and Ride from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Residents can drop off accepted items free of charge and must stay in their vehicles during the drive-through process—showing proof of residency and adhering to waste limits.  Loudoun County
  • Town of Hamilton leaders met Saturday for a strategic retreat—setting goals that include improving pedestrian safety and traffic calming, expanding the commercial tax base, and growing community amenities. They completed sidewalk improvements in 2024 and will work in 2025 on updating the zoning ordinance, exploring business annexation, and upgrading water and wastewater systems.  Loudoun Now
  • The filing window for candidates running in November’s general elections opened today and remains open until June 17 for races including Loudoun delegates, five School Board seats, and the offices of governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. Incumbents and challengers in districts such as the 26th and 30th have launched their campaigns—early voting for the June primaries will begin May 2.  Loudoun Now
