ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A driver was killed in a crash in Ashburn on March 14—investigators continue to probe the incident.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

CRIME NEWS

  • In Aldie, the Virginia Supreme Court overturned a 2018 double homicide conviction—stating that a defense witness and gun expert should have been allowed to testify.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Selden’s Landing Elementary School fifth grader Vikyath Tanamala beat more than 80 spellers by correctly spelling 'groundsel' in the 19th round—she outlasted the two-time defending champion—to win Loudoun County Public Schools’ 43rd Annual Spelling Bee on Wednesday night. Tanamala will compete at the 100th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.  Loudoun Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Glenn Youngkin acted on 916 bills on Monday by signing 30 Loudoun-sponsored bills into law—sending 12 back for review and vetoing 11. The General Assembly will reconvene on April 1 to consider final actions on the amended bills.  Loudoun Now
  • Senators Perry (D-31) and Srinivisan (D-32) met with Leesburg voters Wednesday night to review legislative actions from the recent session, including bills on domestic violence support, data center rules, and updates to nursing home fees. They also discussed plans to make Oak Hill a state park and addressed issues over Medicaid and restaurant food allergy guidelines.  Loudoun Now
  • Purcellville's town manager interviews will be delayed one week as Mayor Christopher Bertaut extended the review deadline for 82 applications to Monday, March 31 (some councilmembers had website access issues). The posting was opened Feb. 4 after Rick Bremseth was fired, and top candidates are set to be contacted by April 2 with interviews scheduled to finish by April 25.  Loudoun Now
