ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday evening, firefighters responded to a 50x50 barn fire on Airmont Road in Bluemont caused by an electrical malfunction and contained the blaze by mitigating nearby propane and fuel tanks while no injuries were reported and damage was estimated at $150,000.  Loudoun Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Vasireddy, a local restaurant owner, is opening Aura—an Indian restaurant in the former V Eatery space in Ashburn that will have a bakery, full bar, dining room and private event rooms. He said the restaurant will open in mid-April if all goes as planned.  The Burn
  • Today, Southern Tide opened its doors at One Loudoun in Ashburn with a 1,400 s.f. clothing store for men’s and women’s apparel in a classic coastal style—located next to The Yard Milkshake Bar. The store is part of an effort to expand retail options at the center as LensCrafters has opened and an Arhaus along with a Kendra Scott shop will open soon.  The Burn

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Heritage High School's theater department will perform its first sensory friendly play Big Fish on March 30 (2 p.m.) by reducing sound effects, lowering microphone volume and keeping house lights on so families and those with sensory issues can enjoy the show.  Loudoun Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Leesburg Police Department will launch a six-month training program starting March 31 that pairs officers with licensed mental health professionals to improve responses to mental health crises. The program aims to let officers focus on public safety and help people get the right care (with support for de-escalation and access to resources).  Loudoun Now
  • On March 25, the Leesburg Town Council approved spending $399,000 to contract Meridian Rapid Defense Group for three mobile vehicle barrier kits to boost safety at public events. The kits will be set up in 10 minutes using a tow bar—covering two traffic lanes and allowing pedestrian access—and are expected in two to three months with an annual setup cost of $45,000 included in the fiscal year 2026 budget.  Loudoun Now

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Construction on a warehouse-style addition to the rear of the former Black Walnut Brewery on South King Street is underway in downtown Leesburg; project leader Kevin Ash, who is developing the adjacent Hotel Burg, said the phase two project will create six condos+ following last year's brewery closure by town council member Patrick Wilt+.  Loudoun Now
