  • Pastor Michelle C. Thomas leads efforts to preserve the African American Burial Ground at Belmont in Ashburn—she signed an agreement with a land developer to add 10 acres to the historic site. She founded the first Black woman-led church in Loudoun County and serves as president of the local NAACP.  Blue Ridge Leader

  • Ashburn man Ever Rafael Cruz (26) was sentenced by Judge Stephen E. Sincavage to 20 years of active incarceration for second-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding after he fatally beat Pedro Casalez Cala at an apartment complex dog park.  Blue Ridge Leader

CULTURE NEWS

  • Montana Cochran, a senior at Loudoun Valley High School known for her community work, was crowned Miss Teen Virginia International 2025 on March 2nd after competing in interview, fashion, fitness, and public speaking events — she will represent Virginia at the international pageant in July and use her title to raise Lyme disease awareness.  Blue Ridge Leader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Purcellville Police Officer Ben Nett—recently elected to Town Council—has faced several Internal Affairs investigations and threats of termination that began soon after he announced his candidacy and continued during his sick leave. The Town Manager ordered his reinstatement pending legal review—yet departmental actions persist, leaving his future in the force in doubt.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • Loudoun County will launch a free, 12‐week online program to build fatherhood skills starting April 22. The weekly sessions run from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and cover topics like men’s health, communication, discipline, co‐parenting, and child development—early registration is encouraged.  Loudoun County
  • The Town Council will designate $100,000 from its unassigned fund balance when it adopts the Fiscal Year 2026 budget on April 25 to support development of the new museum and visitor center next to Dodona Manor — a site that will feature exhibits and free ethical leadership programs. Chairman Tom Greenspon said the funding will highlight General Marshall’s leadership and impact on global history.  Loudoun Now
  • At the March 25 meeting, county supervisors discussed the revised Hiddenwood Assemblage project along Hiddenwood Lane near Arcola—property owners changed the plan from three data centers totaling 756,024 square feet to light and medium industrial and commercial space with 334,000 square feet and a reduced building height. The board and many residents remained divided over the proposal as they planned further refinements to address local concerns.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • At its March 18 meeting, the Board of Supervisors approved zoning amendments that change data center designations to conditional use or special exception status and restrict new approvals while allowing projects approved before Feb. 12 to continue. Officials noted that nearly 60 million square feet of data center development is already in the pipeline.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • On April 1st, Congressman Suhas Subramanyam spoke at a House hearing about the effects of data centers on local communities—he said their growth increased utility bills, strained power lines and green spaces, and created security risks. He called for a national strategic plan to develop data centers in a way that protects residents and local infrastructure.  Blue Ridge Leader
