- ➤ Joshua’s Hands will host its 9th Annual Virginia Touch-A-Truck on May 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at StoneSprings Hospital in Dulles where children of all ages can explore trucks; the event will have a horn free hour from 10 to 11 a.m. plus food trucks and the first 300 paying kids will receive a free die cast car or truck as proceeds benefit the nonprofit. - ➤ Veterans in Foreign Wars Post 1177 in Leesburg held its annual awards program Wednesday night—honoring local teachers, first responders, students and Boy Scouts with awards including Teacher of the Year, Public Servant, Firefighter/EMT and Scout of the Year. - ➤ A new all-you-can-eat seafood buffet, Aurora Seafood & Grill Buffet, will open at the AutoZone Center on East Market Street in Leesburg and will offer seafood like oysters, snow crab legs, grilled salmon and salt & pepper crab along with non-seafood options; the restaurant has not set an official date but plans to open before the end of April. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Herndon-area man, Zeon Garner, was sentenced to six years and three months in prison for a May 30 shooting in Leesburg after pleading guilty to three counts of malicious wounding and one count of reckless handling of a firearm—court records showed he fired into a courtyard and put bystanders at risk despite his attorney’s claim he acted in fear for his family. - ➤ The School Board’s Curriculum and Instruction Committee is reviewing draft regulations that will allow only division-approved AI tools in classrooms and require teacher approval before use. The policy — to be included in the student rights and responsibilities handbook — also may require parental consent for some uses and will return to committee in May. Loudoun Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On April 3, Loudoun County Government joined the social media platform BlueSky to expand its outreach and provide timely updates on county services. Residents can now follow its official BlueSky accounts to stay informed about local programs and prevent misinformation. Loudoun County
- ➤ Child care providers in Loudoun County can apply for a $750 grant to improve equipment and training using ARPA funds—virtual help sessions on April 9 and June 4 will explain the program’s requirements and application process. Loudoun County
- ➤ During its April 1 meeting, the Board of Supervisors ratified a collective bargaining agreement with SEIU Virginia 512 effective July 1— the deal sets new pay scales and benefits and will cost about $42.8 million over three years, with the first-year costs covered in the April budget. - ➤ Construction crews began building the new phase of One Loudoun today, where new buildings will offer restaurants and retail shops with offices or residences above - creating a new block along Exchange Street. Announced tenants include Arhaus, Tatte Bakery & Cafe, Van Leeuwen ice cream shop, Bartaco restaurant and a boutique hotel while other businesses such as Lenscrafters, Southern Tide, Falafel Inc and Kendra Scott are set to open soon - further diversifying the area.
