- ➤ Gogo’s Gelato, a new handmade gelato shop, has opened at 10 South King Street in downtown Leesburg after the Tarbender’s team repurposed the space that once housed Tarbender’s Lounge. The shop offers a rotating menu of flavors—including Dark Chocolate, Pistachio, Pumpkin Pie, Figleaf, Mango, Pineapple, Olive Oil, and Strawberry Basil Sorbeto—and is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 12 noon to 12 midnight and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Burn

- ➤ Ben Demase, a senior at Loudoun Valley High School, wrote, composed and directed his original musical The Gunslinger which is set to be performed May 23 and May 24. Rehearsals after school are underway with a six-person cast — Demase works to bring his unique folk-blues style to the stage as part of his senior CAS project. Blue Ridge Leader

- ➤ Mercer Middle School in Aldie held its Walk for Smiles walk-a-thon on April 25 to support cleft care as over 150 students took part while special guest Commanders’ tight end John Bates—who was born with a cleft lip—joined to boost funds for Smile Train. Bates spoke to the students after the event and encouraged them to continue making a difference. Blue Ridge Leader
- ➤ Last night, the Rust Library Advisory Board awarded 12 high school students with $1K scholarships for academic excellence after 23 students answered a prompt about a book that impacted them—board chair Kate Sisemore noted the winners averaged a 4.5 GPA and showed strong leadership and community involvement. - ➤ The Loudoun County Planning Commission reviewed the Greenfield Farm Phase 2 rezoning application on April 10 to change 174.4 acres of farmland into a mixed-use site with 518 new homes (including plans for a convenience store, drive-through restaurant and future agri-tourism projects) and 44,265 square feet of commercial space. The commission voted 7 to 1 to forward the application to the Board of Supervisors while concerns remain over heritage resource protection, planned transportation improvements and the site's proximity to Leesburg Executive Airport. - ➤ Officials approved a $5.8M contract on April 15 to award Hill International, Inc. third-party construction support for the Western Loudoun Recreation Complex at 36715 Main Street in Purcellville—an expanded 96,000-square-foot facility with a teen center and athletic fields. The project aims to enhance community recreational options and will integrate design features to support additional programming including future public facilities. Blue Ridge Leader
