COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Willing Warriors announced four summer events to support wounded service members. The events include a golf scramble on May 11, a Corvettes show on May 16, a Warrior Ride on September 12, and a Cocktail Gala on Sept. 26 — all to fund cost-free retreat stays.  Inside Nova
  • Community members are teaming up to host a fairy-tale prom shopping event this spring in Loudoun County to offer shopping options for junior and senior students + the initiative builds on a trusted local tradition as thousands get ready for prom.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Monkee’s of Loudoun, an upscale boutique for women’s fashions, is coming soon to One Loudoun in Ashburn, taking over the 1,600 sqft space that once held Apricot Lane + it is part of a national chain with six Virginia stores.  The Burn
  • Crimson Coward in Leesburg postponed its opening because a computer glitch delayed initial plans and now will open Monday, May 4 at Bellewood Commons — the restaurant specializes in hot chicken tenders and sandwiches.  The Burn

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Loudoun school system opened its second Welcome Center in Sterling this week, where education leaders held a ribbon cutting that marked the 10-year anniversary of the Leesburg site. The center now offers one-stop support for English learner families.  Loudoun Now
  • The Loudoun County School Board met Tuesday to study a year-round school calendar that would begin Aug. 10, 2028, include set breaks to reduce summer learning loss + preserve 180 learning days; some board members shared mixed views and urged community feedback.  Loudoun Now
  • On Tuesday, the Loudoun School Board heard from Office of Sustainability Director Clark Seipt about school green initiatives. Seipt explained recycling efforts, LED lighting upgrades, and outdoor classroom plans now underway across county schools - efforts that aim to cut waste and lower energy costs.  Loudoun Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The DEQ launched an air quality monitoring program in Ashburn—where data centers are concentrated—to track pollutant levels after residents voiced concerns about backup generator emissions. The project began sensor placements in February, added more in April, and will move sensors to Prince William County in June.  Loudoun Now
  • Leesburg residents will have a chance to pick up a free tree on Saturday at Ida Lee Park between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. as part of the town’s Treesburg Initiative to boost the urban tree canopy with expert planting advice available.  Loudoun Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DOJ attorneys renewed their attempt to intervene in the Stone Bridge High School locker room case that began in March 2025 after a sealed settlement was reached. They are now appealing Judge Brinkema's denial to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, arguing that the school division violated equal protection rights.  Loudoun Now
  • Housing leaders held a forum discussing state and federal measures to boost housing affordability in Leesburg, including the new Faith in Housing bill and proposals for workforce housing on public land + officials said careful planning is needed for future projects.  Loudoun Now
  • Loudoun County is planning a new park next to Lightridge High School. Local residents have asked for design adjustments before officials finalize the plans.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • The Army announced it will buy the Middleburg Training Center (149-acre facility) near St. Louis to house its Caisson horses, with final details pending and relocation expected in about one year. Local trainers worry the sale may hurt Virginia’s thoroughbred racing and training industry.  Inside Nova
