- ➤ On Saturday, May 10, Loudoun County Animal Services will host a free pet adoption event at the Loudoun County Animal Shelter on Adoption Drive in Leesburg where fees are waived for cats, kittens, dogs, small pets and livestock—participants adopting dogs will get a starter supply bag and free dog training class options. - ➤ The fifth annual Run the Greenway on May 4 drew 2,400 runners despite the rain and featured Star Wars costumes, three race events for adults and children, and a celebration area with food trucks and live music. - ➤ The Loudoun County School Board is holding its second public hearing tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Administration Building in Broadlands to review proposed attendance zone changes in Dulles South for the 2026-2027 school year. - ➤ On May 22, the Loudoun County Environmental Commission will hold its third annual Energy and Environment Forum at the Academies of Loudoun, 42075 Loudoun Academy Drive in Leesburg from 5:30—8:00 p.m. Community members will join breakout sessions on energy and environmental topics and a listening session for input while Mike Rolband, director of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, is set to give a keynote address. - ➤ Lovettsville Town Council adopted its FY2026 budget at $8.6 million after three work sessions and two public hearings, setting a tax rate of 14.52 cents per $100 that will raise average residential tax bills by about $47 annually. The budget funds $3.8 million for capital projects and makes changes like a 2.5% cost-of-living increase—along with eliminating the $25 vehicle license fee—while preparing for needed repairs, with the new plan taking effect July 1. - ➤ Crews are expected to start construction this week on a $3.1 million project to ease morning congestion on eastbound Rt. 7 by extending the on-ramp from Rt. 9 at Clarke’s Gap and repaving a third of a mile of lanes—lane closures will occur outside peak hours, and work is set to finish by mid-2026. - ➤ Gov. Glenn Youngkin met the deadline on Friday to make final decisions on the 2025 session legislation passed by the General Assembly, including 53 bills from Loudoun legislators.
