  • The Arc of Loudoun will hold its annual Safety Fair at Tuscarora High School in Leesburg on Saturday, May 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.—the event will let families and participants practice traffic stops, bicycle safety, and simulated 911 calls with law enforcement and local service providers.  Loudoun Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A Loudoun County mother said her 5-year-old was racially harassed by a middle schooler in a video filmed April 5 in the Broadlands community—officials are reviewing the case while parents urge LCPS to enforce stronger protections.  WTOP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Twelve Loudoun County high school students qualified for National Merit Scholarships – each received $2,500 for future academic endeavors after being selected from 2,500 nationwide finalists that included 63 winners from Virginia.  Loudoun Now
  • Loudoun County Public Schools has urged parents today to warn their children about the risky TikTok trend known as the Chromebook Challenge that has led to a rise in device repair requests. The challenge encourages actions like short-circuiting devices or starting fires — any resulting damage will be charged to families.  Loudoun Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Rep. Suhas Subramanyam held a town hall at Leesburg Elementary School on Saturday where local residents expressed concerns over potential Medicaid cuts that could reduce essential healthcare and support services. Speakers warned that these cuts would harm jobs and care for those with disabilities—issues that amplify the struggles faced by many in our community.  Loudoun Now
  • The county is expanding its safety study from Rt. 9 to also cover north-south roads linking to Rt. 7 by reviewing Woodgrove Road, Cider Mill Road and Stoney Point Road for short-term crash risk fixes and long-term roadway realignments—public input was held on May 7 at Woodgrove High School at 6 p.m.  Loudoun Now
  • The Town of Leesburg again received an award for excellence in water performance from the Virginia Department of Health for exceeding water quality and filtration standards at its Kenneth B. Rollins water filtration plant that produces 4.4 million gallons daily. The town will host open house tours at the water and wastewater treatment plants on May 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — registration is required.  Loudoun Now
