  • The Thornton family lost their home, belongings and pet Jazzy in Tuesday’s two-alarm fire on Sunset Course Terrace, and they thanked neighbors for their generous support as the BURG Family Reunion Club’s fundraiser reached $5,700 of a $13,000 goal while they prepare to rebuild.  Loudoun Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Officials are negotiating a new memorandum of understanding for the school resource officer program serving middle and high schools — the School Board set up a committee to increase transparency, though participation by Leesburg Police and the sheriff’s office remains unclear.  Loudoun Now
  • At a meeting on May 5, the Loudoun County School Board Performance Committee advanced plans for a public-facing data dashboard to display student achievement, wellbeing, and other school data — a beta version is expected by early fall.  Loudoun Now
  • International student enrollment in Virginia increased by 243 students (from 29,265 in March 2025 to 29,508 in March 2026), bucking a national trend that saw a 3.6% decline. The data highlights India as the top country of origin.  Inside Nova

  • Two injured bald eagles (likely suffering pentobarbital poisoning) were treated and released Wednesday at Sycolin Creek Elementary in Leesburg after being rescued by the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center.  The Burn
