COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Lincoln Strawberry Festival in Loudoun County, now in its second year, will start with a gala on May 16—then hold family events like a strawberry pancake breakfast, hayrides, and strawberry picking on Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds will aid local organizations and help fund scholarships for local students.  WTOP

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on May 9 when deputies responded around 9:45 p.m. near the Loudoun County Parkway interchange—Michael James Singer, a 39-year-old Ashburn resident, died at the scene.  Blue Ridge Leader

  • American Kolache is expanding into Loudoun County with its 1,400 s.f. bakery at Cameron Chase Village Center—run by local operators Alex and Jing Stimpson and expected to open in early fall.  The Burn
  • Washington, D.C.-based Taco Bamba opened its first Loudoun County restaurant at Cascades Marketplace—offering local diners Mexican street food options.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • On May 7, Leesburg celebrated local business excellence when the Leesburg Business Awards honored 24 nominees in five categories at The Depot — the new event space by The Building People — with Mayor Kelly Burk and town council members in attendance.   • Chase Bank will open a new freestanding building at One Loudoun near Trader Joe’s and a parking garage in Ashburn—its 3,300 s.f. building will be built at the edge of the parking lot near Loudoun County Parkway.  The Burn

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office launched the Blue Envelope Program today to help drivers with communication differences by providing a free blue envelope that holds a photocopy of required documents+ optional communication cards with instructions, while deputies receive special training to better serve these citizens. The program is available without registration at local LCSO and police stations.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • On May 3, Congressman Suhas Subramanyam held a town hall at Leesburg Elementary School to talk about federal plans that may cut Medicaid funding, warning that a 1% cut could leave 600,000 Virginians without coverage. Panelists and community advocates testified that the proposed changes would force more people to rely on emergency care and strain local services.  Blue Ridge Leader

  • Inova Health System and Loudoun County Public Library hosted a free lecture on perimenopause and menopause Monday night at Rust Library in Leesburg from 6 to 7 p.m.—the event aimed to dispel myths about hormone testing and review treatment options—attendees were encouraged to bring friends.  Loudoun Now
