- ➤ Leesburg Police arrested a 16-year-old boy on May 14 at Wegmans for shoplifting+officers found him wearing a replica firearm and he now faces charges of retail theft and possession of a firearm under the age of 18. Loudoun Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Leesburg council approved a fee waiver that covers $10,743 in costs for the Loudoun Pride Festival, which will be held at Ida Lee Park May 31 from noon to 6 p.m.—the waiver pays for parking rental, police services and public works staff to support the event. Councilmembers expect that the festival will draw 5,000 people and boost local spending. Loudoun Now
- ➤ Today, Rep. Suhas Subramanyam introduced an agritourism bill that will create an Office of Agritourism within the U.S. Department of Agriculture to advise on policy and help local farmers and landowners access federal resources. - ➤ County Chair Randall delivered her annual address on Thursday where she discussed Loudoun’s strong economy, challenges from federal changes, and gaps in affordable housing. - ➤ The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office held a National Police Week memorial service today at the Leesburg courthouse square to honor fallen officers from several agencies including Jefferson D. Lambert, Henry Milton Seaton, Thomas Allen Belt, Clarence McClary, Charles Barton, and Crossing Guard Kitty Via, with service members placing flags for each and the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department’s Pipes and Drums Department playing at the close—highlighting a legacy of sacrifice from 1899 to 1996. - ➤ The Board of Supervisors reviewed a data center application at Arcola Grove that would raise building height and include a gas-insulated substation—designed to reduce the substation’s footprint by 40% for extra distance from nearby homes.
