COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Aldie residents celebrated the restoration of a 70-foot brick wall along Rt. 50 on Saturday, May 18; the work based on years of local research earned the wall a spot on the National Register of Historic Places (built in 1809 near Charles Fenton Mercer's home).  Loudoun Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Loudoun County native David Ashley lost his partner Shelley Johannesen when a wind slab avalanche struck during their descent from Makalu in Nepal on May 11 & rescuers were delayed by dangerous wind conditions, leaving Ashley injured from frostbite.  Loudoun Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Edge Express Car Wash is set to rebrand the closed BriteWash facility at The Shops at Russell Branch in Leesburg — the company will also complete its project off Russell Branch Parkway near Kincora with service coming soon.  The Burn
  • The new Michael Kors Mens store at the Leesburg Premium Outlets offers a dedicated menswear line. It held a soft opening earlier this month and will have a grand opening on Saturday, June 6 — while a Timberland footwear store is also set to open in June.  The Burn
  • Dominion Energy announced a merger with Florida-based NextEra Energy to form the largest regulated electric utility and provide bill credits ($2.25B) to customers. The deal requires approval from state and federal regulators and is expected to close in 12 to 18 months.  Loudoun Now
  • The first Another Broken Egg Cafe in Loudoun County is nearing a late June opening in Ashburn as workers finish unpacking furniture and hanging lights to set up art. The restaurant will offer popular brunch dishes including Chicken + Waffles, Crab Cake Benedict and Apple Fritter French Toast.  The Burn

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Loudoun County School Board’s committee advanced revised dress code guidelines after an April 27 meeting that proposed stricter coverage for tops and bottoms and replaced the word 'cleavage' with an 'imaginary line' guideline (with muscle shirt limits) before sending the policy to the full board for review.  Loudoun Now
  • Parents at Stone Bridge High School (Ashburn) are voicing concern about the possible turnover of special education staff; school officials are reviewing plans to maintain consistent support for students.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
