  • The annual Battle of Braddock volleyball fundraiser tournament returns tonight at Light Ridge High School's gymnasium featuring teams from Gum Spring, Lunsford, and Willard. The event supports Play 4 All (a local charity for accessible playgrounds) and includes a tie-dye contest for team shirts.  Loudoun Now

  • Soko Butcher & Deli opened a new gourmet sandwich shop at 15 Loudoun Street SE downtown Leesburg today, drawing local residents who sampled its extensive menu including sandwiches, breakfast items, salads, wings, and loaded fries.  The Burn
  • A new Sheetz gas station and convenience store is set to open Tuesday, July 2 at the Village Center at Belmont Greene in Loudoun County. The store will feature a fast-food restaurant and refresh a small shopping center that once housed a Bloom grocery store.  The Burn

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA said gas prices in Virginia have climbed above $4 a gallon ahead of Memorial Day weekend—Friday’s average was $4.43, with some southwest areas offering lower rates. Leesburg drivers may notice similar trends as holiday travel increases fuel demand.  Inside Nova

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four School Board members were appointed to a new select committee to oversee negotiations over the agreement that governs the School Resource Officer program, with the decision made on May 21.  Loudoun Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Leesburg has closed on its purchase of Rock Spring Farm (a 13-acre tract) along West Loudoun Street in its historic district. The town council approved the $5.8 million deal but has not yet decided how to use the property.  Loudoun Now

  • A McLean doctor warns that warmer weather and a mild winter have increased tick activity in backyards today. He advises residents to trim their yards, use repellent, and perform tick checks to reduce the risk of Lyme disease and other illnesses.  Inside Nova

  • A new analysis shows that Virginia homes now cost about $165K more than a decade ago, reflecting a 66.6% rise in median price from March 2016 to March 2026 + high mortgage rates continue to pressure affordability.  Inside Nova
