Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 27th of May.
Good morning, Leesburg.
🏘️ Community
Community members gathered today at Lovettsville Town Square to honor U.S. service members who died protecting the nation's freedoms.
Mayor Christopher Hornbaker led the Memorial Day ceremony featuring chaplains, patriotic readings, and a speech by retired Master Sergeant David Smith—who recalled the sacrifices of fallen comrades—while local groups marked the day with the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.
🏛️ Government
Loudoun County Sheriff Michael Chapman said he plans to expand the school resource officer program to all 65 elementary schools, with the move starting in 2026 and finishing by 2030—this expansion requires school board support and proper funding from the Board of Supervisors.
All middle and high schools already have officers, and the plan aims to strengthen safety at the elementary level.
