Good morning, Leesburg.

High school students at Independence High organized CyberSummit and IndyHax in May and June to promote cybersecurity and innovation among local students from Loudoun and neighboring counties.

They plan to expand the event statewide next year to boost digital skills.

The Loudoun County School Board revised its student contraband policy Tuesday to update search procedures for devices and clarify staff training, passing the changes by an 8 to 0 to 1 vote (with one absence) to simplify protocols at local schools.

On June 12, the Loudoun County School Board extended Superintendent Aaron Spence's contract until June 30, 2030 and set his deferred compensation at $38,500 (a correction to earlier reports).

The board said his strong work has helped boost student success.
