BUSINESS NEWS

  • After filing for Chapter 11 last week, At Home announced it will close 26 underperforming stores nationwide. The Manassas Mall and Compass Creek (Leesburg) locations will shut by the end of September (final inventory sales are underway and only in-store discounts will apply).  Inside Nova
  • Bkd Bagels is constructing a new shop in Ashburn's Brambleton Corner Plaza and is targeting an opening in August — the signs on the exterior mark progress. It will be the fourth local shop — joining two in Leesburg and one in Purcellville and located next to the new Biryani Grill restaurant.  The Burn
  • Three Creeks Winery celebrates its five-year anniversary on Harmony Church Road outside Hamilton as owners say the business grew mostly by word of mouth during the pandemic. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia awarded over $350,000 in scholarships to more than 100 students for the 2025-2026 school year. The awards range from $1,200 to $5,000 for students pursuing specific fields and many come from across the region + some plan to study in other states.  Inside Nova

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Dangerous triple-digit heat is affecting residents today with heat index values up to 110 and officials urging those in need of relief to visit local libraries, community centers, and a pet-friendly animal shelter. The Loudoun Homeless Services Center extended its drop-in hours—transport is provided to the Leesburg location while the Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling reopens once power is restored.  Loudoun Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Loudoun County’s Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure has named Sherene Dorazio its new director; she will begin her role on July 3 and manage county transportation and capital projects. She previously served at the VA’s Office of Construction and Facilities Management and in senior roles with the U.S. Army (she earned an engineering degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville).  Loudoun Now

  • Loudoun Soccer has partnered with Soccer Stars of Greater Loudoun to launch new soccer programs for young players. The club introduced a Parent and Me program for toddlers and a revamped Minis program for children 2-5 with paid professional trainers and open registration through August 8 — both programs aim to build fundamental skills and confidence.  The Burn
