CULTURE NEWS

  • A new guide lists many Fourth of July events in Northern Virginia, including parades, fireworks shows and family festivals at sites like Mount Vernon and Leesburg. The schedule runs from June 27 to July 13—offering local celebrations for Independence Day.  Inside Nova

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Loudoun School Board approved policy 5430 Tuesday, which guides how students & staff use only approved generative AI programs in school work. The new policy bans unapproved software and will be reviewed annually as AI technology evolves.  Loudoun Now
  • School administrators thanked dozens of firefighters and law enforcement officers for their service at J. Lupton Simpson Middle School on Tuesday—volunteers from Apple Federal Credit Union helped organize the event. Officials said the ceremony honored both active and retiring first responders from multiple local agencies who work together to keep schools safe.  Loudoun Now
  • The Paxton Trust announced Friday afternoon that The Arc of Loudoun will leave its long-held campus after mediation ended, and both groups are planning next steps. The Arc said its preschool and clinic will close on August 8 & the organization is seeking community support to help relocate services including the Aurora School.  Loudoun Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Leesburg Town Council last night debated a policy that would let community groups request custom painted crosswalks on streets with 25 mph limits—staff presented options and council members backed allowing artwork to remain for up to 90 days with a review coming soon.  Loudoun Now
  • Commonwealth’s Attorney Bob Anderson moved to have the lawsuit filed by Purcellville Vice Mayor Ben Nett stayed—pending a Virginia State Police investigation into Nett’s conduct. Nett, who was fired as a town police officer on April 4, had filed a complaint to nullify an advisory opinion limiting his Town Council participation while a recall petition against him was assigned to a special prosecutor.  Loudoun Now
  • During Tuesday's Board of County Supervisors meeting, supervisors deferred STACK Infrastructure's two-part Bristow Campus data center application until September 9 by a vote of seven to one with Bob Weir opposing (no reason was given for the deferral). The project, planned near Nokesville Road and Piper Lane on 58 acres, would change the land use from agricultural to a planned business district featuring office and light industrial uses and remains open for public review.  Inside Nova
