Good morning, Leesburg. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 4th of July.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday deferred a decision on a Leesburg-area data center proposal by JK Land Holdings for a 22-acre site near the Leesburg Executive Airport. The board will reexamine the proposal at its July 15 meeting — members remain divided over power infrastructure issues — as local concerns grow about the regional grid.  Loudoun Now
  • Loudoun supervisors approved a study to see if tiny homes can expand affordable housing and tasked the Affordable Dwelling Unit Advisory Board with preparing a white paper—covering costs, financing options, and development models—to be finished by the end of the year.  Loudoun Now
  • Oaklawn Developers filed a lawsuit against Leesburg after the town denied its application to build a 450,000 square foot data center along the Dulles Greenway in January, alleging that the decision violated the Town Plan and zoning rules. The developer spent over $23 million on project infrastructure in the Oaklawn neighborhood—claiming the application met all requirements—and seeks a five-day trial in January 2027.  Loudoun Now
  • County supervisors approved $125,000 to install five pole-mounted speed display signs along Beacon Hill Drive, Bold Venture Drive, and Farm Market Road in the 226-home Beacon Hill neighborhood— a plan requested by the Beacon Hill Community Association after a March study found most motorists exceed the 25 mph limit.  Loudoun Now
  • Lt. W. Mike Holman and Officer Larry Michelli have been named Purcellville’s Officers of the Year after town officers cast anonymous votes—Holman joined in April 2024 with over 20 years of law enforcement experience and Michelli, who joined in 2022, now mentors new officers and participates in community programs.  Loudoun Now
  • The Loudoun Workforce Resource Center will host a job fair on July 19 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the ADAMS Center on Sugarland Road in Sterling where local government and private employers will offer jobs in health care, law enforcement, maintenance, and other fields.  Loudoun County
  • County supervisors approved Dominion Energy's plan to build a 36.5-mile transmission line along existing rights-of-way in south Loudoun, including 4.8 miles from the Mosby substation to the planned Wishing Star substation. The plan calls for replacing old lattice towers with new monopole towers (only three segments need widening) to keep the line mostly in the current corridor and limit its impact on nearby homes.  Loudoun Now
