COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Purcellville Police Department collects new school supplies for local students from July 7 through August 1, with donations dropping off at its police station lobby (125 Hirst Road, Suite 7A) Monday–Friday (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Those who prefer to donate online can order items from an Amazon Wish List for direct delivery to the department.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • St. James Episcopal Church dedicated the new Fred Williams Meditation Garden on Sunday morning after 18 months of planning—honoring Williams' leadership during challenging times and built with help from the Sacred Soil Society and local volunteers. The pocket park is located next to the Parish House at 8 Cornwall St, accessed from the campus parking lot off North Street.  Loudoun Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A trial began this morning at the Loudoun County Circuit Court for former propane delivery worker Roger Bentley, who is charged with involuntary manslaughter after a February home explosion in Sterling killed one firefighter and injured 13 others—he faces up to 10 years in prison for handling propane without proper certification.  Loudoun Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Madison Whitbeck from Loudoun won Miss Virginia last month and will pause her studies at Belmont University to lead a state ABC school tour and an arts initiative—her win comes after earning several pageant crowns and $30,000 in scholarships over the past three years. In her new role, she will visit schools to help students learn about the arts.  Loudoun Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Old Dominion Land Conservancy completed the conservation easement process for 431 acres on Pot House Road near Middleburg donated by Chuck and Stacy Kuhn. The protected land—a mix of farmland, streams, wetlands, ponds and historic sites from the Civil War—will stay preserved from future development.  Loudoun Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Loudoun County is holding a surplus auction that offers items — including modular buildings, chainsaws, cookbooks, and a 2018 RAM 1500 truck — and the auction will close at 9:30 a.m. July 10; bidders must register online and pick up their purchases by appointment at 14 Cardinal Park Drive, Suite 106 in Leesburg.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • Round Hill Town Administrator Melissa Hynes is preparing for Project Manager Rob Lohr’s retirement by hiring two local government veterans—former Purcellville Director of Administration Hooper McCann will take over project duties while former Water Plant Superintendent Bernie Snyder joins the utility team as a part-time employee.  Loudoun Now
