- ➤ A 17-year-old juvenile left the courthouse yesterday for a misdemeanor theft hearing and attempted to carjack a man before fleeing on foot—officials say a bench warrant has been issued and she is now believed to be in another state while search teams continue their efforts. Loudoun Now
- ➤ Loudoun County Sheriff's deputies arrested 24-year-old David Martinez Peralta on robbery, abduction and mask-wearing charges after he robbed a bank at the Bank of America branch on Davenport Drive in Countryside just after 3 p.m. on May 21 — the investigation remains ongoing. Loudoun Now
- ➤ A 20-year-old man from Ashburn was sentenced today to six years in prison for fatally shooting his father in August 2023 outside an apartment building + he must also complete substance abuse and mental health screenings. Loudoun Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Loudoun County financial management staff will propose lowering the general personal property tax rate on data centers next year to slow budget growth, noting that data center revenue now accounts for 38% of the General Fund + could exceed 60% in five to seven years if not adjusted. Officials will offer various tax rate scenarios during the fiscal year 2027 budget process amid rising economic concerns and spending needs. Loudoun Now
- ➤ Leesburg Town Council approved a special exception on Tuesday to allow a drive-through for a new 10,000-square-foot building at Shenandoah Square Shopping Center at 950 Edwards Ferry Road—proposed by Mitco Shenandoah II and featuring a 5,000-square-foot restaurant and retail uses amid parking concerns. The planning commission had recommended the application earlier, and the measure passed with a unanimous vote. Loudoun Now
- ➤ County government employees will see a 12.2% rise in health care premiums next year if the county adopts a plan to cover weight-loss drugs with a required coaching program — adding $1.7 million to a self-insured plan estimated to cost $110 million.
