- ➤ SPARC hosted its 4th Annual Pancake Breakfast on July 12 at the American Legion Post 177 in Fairfax to raise $10,000 for its day programs that support adults with severe disabilities. - ➤ A Loudoun County jury found Roger Lee Bentley guilty of felony Involuntary Manslaughter and three misdemeanor charges for his role in a Sterling home explosion that injured over a dozen people and killed one volunteer firefighter — a sentencing hearing is set for November 6th at 1 p.m. Blue Ridge Leader
- ➤ A Loudoun County jury found former propane technician Roger Bentley guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the Sterling home explosion that killed volunteer firefighter Trevor Brown in February 2024—he faces sentencing on Nov. 6 with a maximum of 13 years in prison. WTOP

- ➤ Leesburg’s Commission on Public Art and Leesburg Movement are extending the call to artists until Aug. 1 to design two full-color asphalt murals along Lassiter Way. The murals, which must measure 10 to 16 feet, are part of a beautification project — selected artists will receive a $3,500 honorarium per mural. Loudoun Now
- ➤ A historical highway marker honoring lynching victim Charles Craven was dedicated in Leesburg on July 16 by state and local officials along with the NAACP Loudoun Branch and the Loudoun Freedom Center at the site of the old Potter’s Field. Charles Craven was killed in 1902 when a mob broke into the jail and no one was convicted, and local leaders say the marker is a way to face the town’s difficult past. Blue Ridge Leader

- ➤ Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System and LCPS have launched the Heroes for Hornets School Supply Drive at Sully Elementary in Sterling to help students start the new school year strong — donations can be dropped off at any fire and rescue station, including headquarters in Leesburg, from July 20 through Aug. 13. - ➤ Today, the Virginia Supreme Court upheld the SCC decision that denied Toll Road Investors Partnership II's request for higher Greenway tolls, finding the increases did not offer fair benefits to users—Loudoun County officials praised the ruling for protecting residents from extra road costs.
