COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bles Park reopened last week—featuring an upgraded playground, six picnic pavilions, trails, sports safety netting and a canoe and kayak launch onto Broad Run—and now offers improved accessibility with plans to add a skate park later.  Loudoun Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dulles International Airport is getting ready for a sweeping 25-year makeover — the project will add a fifth runway and new hotels, office, and retail space. Officials say the expansion will boost travel and create more jobs in the area.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

CRIME NEWS

  • Purcellville Vice Mayor Ben Nett and Town Manager Kwasi Fraser were arrested Wednesday night by Loudoun County deputies after a Leesburg grand jury reviewed evidence that led Judge James P. Fisher to issue arrest warrants + the case involves multiple alleged criminal charges amid ethics concerns + a recall petition against Nett and other council members remains under review.  Loudoun Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The new Sterling Recycling Center in Claude Moore Park is now open to accept household recyclables at 46279 West Juniper Avenue in Sterling — replacing the former site that closed in September. Loudoun County will host a ribbon cutting on August 2 at 10:00 a.m. — the public is invited to attend the ceremony.  Loudoun County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rep. Suhas Subramanyam secured $16.8 million for 15 transportation projects in the 10th District, with nearly $8 million designated for Loudoun local governments. Loudoun County will receive $3.2 million for a roundabout on Rt.15 and Braddock Road and $250K for rental housing, Leesburg will get $1 million for pedestrian projects along Plaza Street, Hamilton will get $650K for a new well and water storage, and Lovettsville will get $1 million for a water tower—bills for these plans are expected to be considered in the coming weeks.  Loudoun Now
  • Loudoun County will host a groundbreaking ceremony on July 29 at 10:00 a.m. for a new dual-lane roundabout at Waxpool Road and Faulkner Parkway that will improve safety and pedestrian connectivity + plans include renaming Faulkner Parkway and part of Shellhorn Road to Broadlands Boulevard with new signs by August 1.  Loudoun County
  • The county Planning Commission will review an application from JK Land Holdings to rezone 117 acres north of town for 1.3 million square feet of business park and flex industrial space at a public hearing scheduled for 6 p.m. on July 29. County planning staff do not recommend approval after a January decision denied a request to annex the property into Purcellville.  Loudoun Now
