- ➤ After years of work, the new Ashburn Recreation and Community Center opened Thursday night as the county’s third joint facility, featuring a 50-meter competition pool, leisure pool, spa, and the largest gym in the Parks and Recreation system. - ➤ A 43-year-old Peruvian man working for an airport services company pleaded guilty to smuggling cocaine after agents found 1.95 kilograms of the drug and over $54,000 in cash in his bags on an April 24 COPA Airlines flight — he faces a sentence from 5 to 40 years when he is sentenced on November 6. - ➤ Virginia is holding a sales tax holiday today through August 3 that lets shoppers buy qualifying school supplies, clothing, footwear, Energy Star and WaterSense products, and emergency preparedness items without state sales tax — spending limits apply for each category. - ➤ Owners of a residential property near Arcola want to change the zoning from Countryside Residential to Industrial Park to allow an industrial project built on 4.5 acres that includes a lesson building, daycare, and a home.
