- ➤ The Loudoun County 4-H Dairy Club earned multiple ribbons at the Virginia Youth Dairy Field Day competition last week—its senior team finished second in oral reasons and third overall while the junior team placed second overall and fourth in oral reasons. Loudoun Now

- ➤ A new restaurant called Shutters on King opens today at 102 South King St.—in historic downtown Leesburg in a building that once housed Black Shutter Antiques. The three-level modern American eatery seats 250 diners, will serve dinner every night and plans to add weekend brunch this fall. WTOP
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, the Loudoun County School Board held a closed session that lasted about one hour to discuss possible litigation over alleged Title IX policy violations following a 10-day deadline from the Department of Education—no formal action was taken and Chair Melinda Mansfield said the board will revisit the issue at its full meeting on Aug. 12. - ➤ A Loudoun teacher, Nicole Korsen, is hosting a weeklong seminar at J. Lupton Simpson Middle School to help educators learn about the Holocaust and racial injustice and guide hard classroom talks; today, participants will tour the Capital Jewish Museum and local sites—where experts share their insights and a survivor speaks—to gain tools for sensitive discussions. - ➤ Loudoun County and Lansdowne Conservancy have jointly appealed the SCC’s approval of Dominion Energy’s Aspen to Golden transmission line project to the Virginia Supreme Court, seeking changes such as underground routing—while the county also invites the public to attend SCC hearings on the Golden to Mars project on September 18 and 29 at Rock Ridge High School from 6:30 p.m. Loudoun County
- ➤ Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Mike Turner (D-Ashburn) has been named chair of the National Association of Counties’ Environment, Energy and Land Use Committee, a panel that will help shape national policies on air, water, and renewable energy. - ➤ Loudoun County became the first local government in Virginia to earn approved Fair Housing School status and will offer its first fair housing course on August 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Cascades Library in Potomac Falls to train housing providers and others on fair housing laws; registration is free but must be completed by August 25.
