BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new brewery named Loco Lion is set to open this fall on 26 acres at 36577 Heskett Lane near Hillsboro north of Purcellville in Loudoun County—honoring lion cubs that once lived there and are buried on the property. The venue will offer 10 craft beers such as Cubs Cry Session IPA, Pott’s Pilsner and Cross-Eyed Kolsch Lite—plus food, ciders, wines, non-alcoholic drinks and live entertainment.  The Burn
  • Blazin Chicken and Gyro announced plans to open a new restaurant in Ashburn—no address has been released yet. The chain, which already has locations in Falls Church and Fairfax, will add this Loudoun County store soon.  The Burn
  • Putt Social Ashburn will open a new indoor miniature golf and entertainment venue in Loudoun County at the Loudoun Station development next to Ashburn Metro station, taking over the 12,000 s.f. space that had been vacant for nearly two years after The Zone closed in 2023—its opening date is not yet announced.  The Burn

CRIME NEWS

  • A Leesburg substitute teacher admitted he exposed himself on school grounds while working for Loudoun County Public Schools—authorities are now reviewing the incident.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • Loudoun County Circuit Court sentenced 61-year-old Louis Thomas Menatac to 10 years in prison for breaking into two Goodwill stores in Sterling in 2024—he was ordered to repay over $23,000 in restitution.  Loudoun Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Loudoun County floral designer helped plan the florals for Bachelorette star Hannah Brown’s wedding in France on July 26—her work added a local touch and brought extra elegance to the event—marking a notable contribution from our community.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Rep. Suhas Subramanyam sent a letter asking for a federal report on how new power lines and growing data centers may raise local utility bills, as a study found bills could rise by 14 to 37 dollars per month by 2040. The State Corporation Commission review is ongoing (written comments will be due by Aug. 26 and phone testimonies accepted until Sept. 2) as officials reexamine rate design.  Loudoun Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 31, dozens of people in Leesburg protested the sheriff's ICE agreement over detained undocumented immigrants— their gathering showed strong opposition to the policy.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • Olde Izaak Walton Park will close for nearly two months starting Aug. 18 as crews repair the Davis Court bridge, blocking all vehicular and pedestrian access. The town allocated $990,000 after inspections found the bridge structurally deficient and crews will replace steel beams, repair masonry, concrete and asphalt work— and the bridge will eventually close permanently to vehicles once a second access is built as part of the Tuscarora Creek Stream Restoration.  Loudoun Now
