CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office investigators discovered that staff at 12 local vape shops sold restricted nicotine merchandise to underage buyers and that five of the stores were repeat offenders last year—Sheriff Mike Chapman said penalties may include fines and license suspensions. - ➤ An undercover operation in August by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office charged 12 local retailers with selling vaping materials to customers under 21. Loudoun Times-Mirror
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, August 12th, the Loudoun County School Board voted 6-3 to reject a resolution from the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights requiring TitleIX changes, directing legal counsel to state that while further discussion was possible, the proposed terms were not agreed upon. Demonstrators gathered outside the closed session—over 75 supporting Policy 8040 and around 20 opposing it—to express concerns that repealing the policy could jeopardize federal funding for Title I schools. - ➤ Loudoun County offers residents a chance to serve on its Board of Zoning Appeals; applications are due by September 12 and the selected member’s five-year term begins on September 29. - ➤ The Leesburg Police Department will launch a new state-authorized school zone speed camera program on August 21—designed to improve road safety near schools. Loudoun Times-Mirror
- ➤ Leesburg Police Department will launch new speed camera zones at three local schools when classes resume next week to enforce 15 mph limits during school hours. For the first 30 days, motorists who exceed the limit will receive warnings by mail and beginning Sept. 22, $100 fines will be issued after officer review—ensuring safer school zones. Loudoun Now
