COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Loudoun County Animal Services will host a fee-waived pet adoption event on August 23 at the Loudoun County Animal Shelter on 42225 Adoption Drive in Leesburg from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event—part of the national Clear the Shelters initiative—will offer adoptions of cats, dogs, rabbits and other pets along with a kids craft station and giveaways while following the standard screening process.  Loudoun County
  • A motorcycle caravan rode through downtown Leesburg on August 15 as part of America’s 911 Ride 2025, organized by the America’s 911 Foundation to raise funds for EMS, fire and police personnel—offering college scholarships for first responder families in a four-day event that headed toward The Pentagon.  Loudoun Now
  • A downtown Leesburg sidewalk sale organized by Leesburg Movement began Friday and runs through the weekend from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.—Chair Vanessa Borg said an Instagram infographic will identify participating shops.  Loudoun Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Leesburg Police are investigating a burglary that occurred overnight at the Exxon gas station on Catoctin Circle—officers were called just after 6:30 a.m. on Aug 15.  Loudoun Now
  • A Loudoun County judge yesterday denied a motion to delay Patricia Burby’s trial for animal cruelty — her attorney requested more time for a mental health evaluation and the trial, set to begin Sept 8, will proceed while she faces a felony count for torturing a dog that could lead to up to five years in prison.  Loudoun Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ian MacDougall has been named the new executive director of the Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area Association. He will manage daily operations, fundraising, membership, and preserve the historic landscape—building on four years as the public programs coordinator.  Loudoun Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Loudoun County Department of Housing and Community Development is inviting Leesburg residents to comment on the Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report until Monday, September 8, which reviews federal housing and community development programs from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. Residents can view the report online or at the department’s office at 106 Catoctin Circle SE - written comments must be mailed or emailed to HUD by September 28.  Loudoun County
