- ➤ Loudoun County Animal Services will host a fee-waived pet adoption event on Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Loudoun County Animal Shelter on 42225 Adoption Drive in Leesburg from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. — the Clear the Shelters initiative will waive fees for all available pets, offer a kids’ craft station with giveaways, and complete most adoptions on the same day. - ➤ A Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office deputy, Louis Custodio, was seriously injured on Aug. 13 on Mountain Road when a civilian motorcyclist hit him head-on—he faces over a year and a half of recovery and at least 15 surgeries. Loudoun Now
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ CSS, a small government contractor on Loudoun Street in downtown Leesburg, won the Trailblazer Strategic Connections Award at the National HUBZone Conference in Chantilly last month—an honor that shows how local HUBZone businesses use federal contracts to compete with bigger firms. - ➤ Manuel Ovando, 34, from Sterling faces two felony animal cruelty charges after he left his two dogs in an unattended car on a hot day—resulting in their death from hyperthermia—and he is held without bond with a court hearing set for September 10. Blue Ridge Leader

- ➤ Trustees at the Paxton campus in Leesburg filed a motion Monday to dismiss a lawsuit by The Arc after failed lease negotiations led to a lockout on Aug. 8, and The Arc plans to relocate The Aurora School for autistic children. The Trust says the claim is baseless and is planning a new multi-tenant space—one that will support groups helping children. Loudoun Now
- ➤ Leesburg residents are invited by the Loudoun County Department of Housing and Community Development to review the CAPER report, which explains how federal funds were used for housing and community programs from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025.
