EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ One hundred and thirty-four students from Briar Woods and Tuscarora high schools celebrated their entry into the Health and Medical Sciences academy with a white coat ceremony last week. The program prepares students for future healthcare careers and is supported by the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation — the Loudoun Education Foundation and Inova Health System also helped. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On August 27, about 200 Loudoun residents gathered at the Barn to back the county's new Invasive Plant Species Management Program—aimed at removing harmful plants from the area. Loudoun Times-Mirror
- ➤ The Leesburg Presbyterian Church earned a National Wildlife Federation Wildlife Habitat Certification for its new garden on Market Street that now supports birds, butterflies, bees, frogs, and local wildlife—volunteers maintained the area all summer and plan to add a bench and more signage to invite community use. - ➤ Loudoun County has launched a $2 million program to help property owners remove invasive plants and replant with native species — residents can get contractor estimates and apply starting Sept. 15 with a second window opening Sept. 26.
