  • ORBCOMM cut the ribbon on its new global headquarters in Sterling on Aug. 14 with a packed crowd that included Gov. Glenn Youngkin and local officials, marking a $3 million investment that created 51 jobs; local leaders also highlighted a $500,000 technology investment to enhance public safety + boost regional innovation.  Blue Ridge Leader

CULTURE NEWS

  • Montana Cochran, Miss Teen Virginia, represented the state at the Miss Teen International pageant in late July in Kingsport, Tennessee and was named one of the top six finalists. She promoted her Go Green for Lyme platform during community outreach and will continue her advocacy as her reign carries on through next spring.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • North Fork Baptist Church in Purcellville will celebrate its 260th anniversary on Sunday, Sept 28 at 11 a.m. – the event will include a brief church service, remarks on its history, and tours of the church building, grounds and historic cemetery with free luncheon tickets required.  Blue Ridge Leader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 29, county planners held a public hearing on the Valley Commerce Center proposal to rezone 117.07 acres at 17110 Purcellville Road from residential to industrial—county staff said the plan conflicts with the General Plan and could increase traffic and water issues. Community members and local officials voiced strong opposition, and the proposal was sent to a work session for further discussion.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has launched its new online crime dashboard to display updated data on crimes against persons and property with easy-to-use filters for details like location and time—helping the public understand crime trends in the area. The tool will update nightly to ensure both residents and the department have the most current information.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • Regional leaders met at a forum hosted by the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce to discuss new funding for local transit projects, including widening roads and changing bus routes. The MWAA said Dulles will receive a new concourse as part of a 15-year investment deal that will boost airport capacity for the next five years—aiming to handle rising passenger numbers.  Loudoun Now
