ECONOMY NEWS

  • A report revealed that Loudoun County led Virginia in visitor spending last year—thanks mainly to Dulles International Airport traffic and gains in transportation and hospitality sectors. Visitor spending reached $4.9 billion, with $2.9 billion coming from transportation.  WTOP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Leesburg Town staff raised safety concerns Monday about the 3D murals chosen by COPA for Lassiter Way because they might confuse motorists and lead pedestrians into risky interactions—town officials plan to address the issue at a public hearing tonight at 7 p.m.  Loudoun Now
  • Loudoun County is reminding short-term rental operators that they must register their property by July 1, secure a zoning permit, and pay business and transient occupancy taxes—failure to comply may lead to a $500 fine per violation.  Loudoun County
  • Loudoun County will host an electronics recycling event on September 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Dulles South — Stone Ridge II Park and Ride in Aldie; fees apply to TVs, computer monitors and hard drive destruction with only credit cards accepted.  Loudoun County
  • Loudoun County will convert Leesburg's former Westpark Golf Club into a passive park—complete with trails, restrooms, and a disc golf course. The project will give residents a new outdoor space for leisure.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • Leesburg Town Council on Monday received a briefing on county plans to turn the former WestPark Golf Club property into a 134 acre park that will have parking, trails, an 18 hole disc golf course and wetland and spring restoration improvements. Construction will begin next summer and finish in fall while councilmembers asked questions about parking access and trail design during the meeting.  Loudoun Now

  • The annual Boots, Beer and BBQ Fundraiser to support Loudoun Free Clinic will be held Sunday, Sept. 14 at Riverside on the Potomac from 4 to 8 p.m.+ Attendees may enjoy food, drinks and live music while raising funds for the clinic.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • Sean and Afrodita Foster lost their son to a fentanyl overdose in early 2023 and now speak at Loudoun County Public Schools to warn students about the dangers of fake pills and drug misuse—using updated insights from the Fairfax County police task force.
