Community leaders and locals gathered on Sept.
10 at South Riding Town Green to hold a vigil for families of at least five Loudoun residents missing in Nepal following severe flooding, with Rep. Suhas Subramanyam leading prayers.
💼 Business
The Loudoun Chamber of Commerce announced finalists for its 32nd annual Small Business Awards, recognizing local business excellence.
Finalists will be honored at an upcoming ceremony + additional details will follow.
A Kilwins ice cream and candy shop will open this Sunday, Sept.
13 at 11 a.m. at 17 South King Street in downtown Leesburg + owners Nancy Carter and Frank Batchelder are also developing sites in Ashburn and Stone Bridge.
🎓 Education
The Loudoun County School Board reviewed proposed changes to its school transfer policy Tuesday.
The proposal shifts to an out-of-zone process with six eligible categories (childcare, emotional, employee perk, grade continuity, zone change, in-zone move) and board members questioned staff handling appeals before a final vote.
On Tuesday, the Loudoun County School Board approved a new policy that updates student removal for safety when de-escalation fails — replacing older isolation and exclusion practices and requiring staff to train, document incidents, and notify parents.
Leesburg board member Lauren Shernoff withdrew her plan for additional family communications.
