COMMUNITY NEWS

  • About 40 Purcellville residents attended a public session on Sept 17 at Harmony Middle School to voice concerns over water — noise and traffic from the proposed Valley Commerce Center. The developer, JK Land, hosted the meeting to explain the plan and address local worries.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Santos O. Muñoz and Jonathon A. Pepper are competing for the Dulles District seat on the Loudoun County School Board as board chair Melinda M. Mansfield is not running for re-election+ the candidates will soon share their plans with voters.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • At a Sept. 16 Loudoun County School Board committee meeting, Chief Rae Mitchell presented LCPS discipline data showing that 930 students—about 1.1% of the student body—were suspended and 4,524—3.7%—were reported to law enforcement, marking the highest numbers in at least four years. Mitchell said the drop from 4.6% in police reports is linked to dropping nine violation types from mandatory reporting—an effort that may affect future discipline records.  Loudoun Now
  • Lauren E. Shernoff is running unopposed for the Leesburg School Board seat—she remains the only candidate in the Loudoun County district.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

  • Loudoun County is considering a highway bypass around Lucketts and residents have met to share alternative ideas — officials will review these suggestions in the coming days.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • Starting Monday, driving over the speed limit in a Leesburg school zone will cost drivers $100 under a new state program announced by the Leesburg Police—fines will be issued immediately for violations.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • Early voting in Virginia starts today—opening a six-week period for voters to cast ballots in races for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and all 100 legislative seats.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • Loudoun County residents and local leaders in Ashburn attended a public hearing on September 18th to protest the proposed routes for the Golden to Mars transmission line and push for an underground option — they argued that this alternative would lower visual and environmental impacts.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
