  • Shutters on King celebrated its grand opening on Sept. 18 in downtown Leesburg with a ribbon cutting event—marking its start of service.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire in a two-story home in Purcellville left three occupants displaced early Friday, Sept. 19 at 12:53 a.m. with no injuries reported because working smoke alarms helped them escape plus firefighters quickly put out the fire in an upstairs bedroom as investigators found a lithium battery malfunction caused it.  Blue Ridge Leader

  • Northern Virginia Performing Arts—led by theater educator Tony Cimino-Johnson—has opened a new performing arts studio at the National Conference Center in Lansdowne.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Leesburg Diversity Commission and Crossroads Jobs will host the 2025 Leesburg job fair on Oct. 18 at the Ida Lee Park Recreation Center at 60 Ida Lee Drive NW from 1 to 3 p.m.—employers will begin setup at 12 p.m. and may offer on-site interviews and resume reviews for job seekers.  Blue Ridge Leader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Leesburg’s new school zone speed camera program near Balls Bluff Elementary, John W. Tolbert Elementary and Loudoun County High School recorded 1,584 speeding violations during its month-long testing phase, with 786 warnings given; today the program will switch to $100 fines for violators — a move to boost safety around schools.  Loudoun Now
  • Leesburg native Adam Fuhrmann, a Heritage High School alum and U.S. Air Force major, has been selected by NASA as one of ten new astronaut candidates.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • Loudoun County will hold a public meeting on October 8 from 6:00 — 7:30 p.m. at the Lucketts Community Center to present the recommended alignments for the Route 15 Lucketts Bypass project based on earlier public input. Residents may give feedback at the meeting or online until October 24.  Loudoun County
  • Construction has begun on road safety improvements on U.S. 15 in Lucketts today — the Virginia Department of Transportation said the project aims to enhance road safety.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • At its Sept. 9 meeting, the Purcellville Town Council adopted new rules that remove the three-minute speaking window and shorten public comment time to two and a half minutes while banning criticism of individual officials — a change prompted by recent disruptive incidents including a resident being escorted out.  Loudoun Now
  • Loudoun County’s Department of Housing and Community Development will host free fair housing courses on October 1 and December 11 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.—with the October session online and the December session at Cascades Library in Potomac Falls. The three-hour courses cover federal and Virginia fair housing laws, award certificates upon completion, and require registration for interested participants.  Loudoun County
  • Leesburg is resurfacing sections of Battlefield Parkway by night through the end of October—this approach aims to keep daytime traffic disruptions to a minimum.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

  • Morven Park International and Fall Horse Trials will host the US Equestrian Open of Eventing Final from Oct. 9th through Oct. 12th at Morven Park in Leesburg.
