- ➤ A fire in a two-story home in Purcellville left three occupants displaced early Friday, Sept. 19 at 12:53 a.m. with no injuries reported because working smoke alarms helped them escape plus firefighters quickly put out the fire in an upstairs bedroom as investigators found a lithium battery malfunction caused it. - ➤ Leesburg’s new school zone speed camera program near Balls Bluff Elementary, John W. Tolbert Elementary and Loudoun County High School recorded 1,584 speeding violations during its month-long testing phase, with 786 warnings given; today the program will switch to $100 fines for violators — a move to boost safety around schools. - ➤ Loudoun County will hold a public meeting on October 8 from 6:00 — 7:30 p.m. at the Lucketts Community Center to present the recommended alignments for the Route 15 Lucketts Bypass project based on earlier public input.
