- ➤ At Madison’s Trust Elementary in Ashburn, kids joined an after-school chess club run by the Silver Knights Chess Academy—coaches taught them moves and strategies without using screens so they could build brain skills. - ➤ Leesburg Air Force pilot Adam Fuhrmann earned a spot in NASA's new astronaut candidate class after competing with more than 8,000 applicants; he, a Heritage High School graduate, will begin two years of training before taking on flight assignments to support space missions—fulfilling a dream he held since age 8. - ➤ The board of supervisors delayed a final decision on a new substation along Crosstrail Boulevard near Tuscarora Crossing after a split vote on Sept. 16— the final vote will be held on Oct. 7.
