COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Joshua’s Hands will host its 40th annual Fall Festival on October 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Historic Walnut Creek Farm—just off Rt. 9 and Rt. 7—with free lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event will feature live entertainment, children’s activities, heritage arts demonstrations, and a community auction at 2 p.m.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • A second-floor loft in downtown Leesburg has been transformed into a hub for local businesses, nonprofits and events — the space now serves as a central spot for community gatherings.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Loco Lion Brewery will open on Saturday, October 4 at 36577 Heskett Lane in Hillboro and will serve 10 rotating craft beers along with British and American dishes — the brewery is owned by a husband-and-wife team who named it after two lion cubs buried on the property.  The Burn

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pueblo Unido Day will take place Saturday, Oct. 11 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Sterling Community Center at 120 Enterprise Street as a free festival celebrating Hispanic and Latino culture with vendor booths, music, dance performances — and a petting zoo for families; cancellation notices for severe weather will be posted on Loudoun PRCS and the Sterling Community Center Facebook pages.  Blue Ridge Leader

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Registration for the 2025-2026 Loudoun Cotillion season is underway for students from kindergarten to 12th grade to learn social and online etiquette, partner dances, and proper manners at formal events. Programs at River Creek Country Club and Middleburg Community Center, along with classes in Brambleton, Middleburg, Purcellville, and Waterford, include a Debutante Ball for young ladies on January 16.  Loudoun Now
  • Loudoun’s charter schools raised concerns after Loudoun County Public Schools proposed to remove Hillsboro Charter Academy and Middleburg Community Charter School from the Capital Improvement Plan and Capital Asset Preservation Program funding — school officials say this change may reduce future resources for building upgrades.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Purcellville officials announced a Drought Watch on Sept. 23 to urge residents to reduce water use amid moderate drought, while Middleburg set voluntary water conservation measures on Sept. 12 after its main water source saw a drop—residents are asked to limit non-essential water use. Both towns will continue to monitor the water supply and may tighten restrictions if conditions worsen.  Blue Ridge Leader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Leesburg Town Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to set aside $3.2 million in data center property tax revenue from the annexed Compass Creek campus into a reserve fund—designed to stabilize town finances in case future revenue falls short.  Loudoun Now
  • The Leesburg Town Council authorized condemnation last night to acquire temporary and permanent easements for the Evergreen Mill Road widening project that will expand 1.3 miles of road from South King Street to the southern entrance of Heritage High School from two to four lanes. The town will issue a notice today that starts a 30-day period for voluntary settlements — negotiations continue with the four remaining landowners over stormwater management concerns.  Loudoun Now
  • The county has started building a roundabout at the Rt. 9/Rt. 287 intersection after giving General Excavation a $13.3 million contract with notice to proceed this month—officials say the project will be done in summer to ease traffic, improve safety and lower road costs.  Loudoun Now
  • County officials forwarded an application to expand Franklin Park to the Board of Supervisors after the Planning Commission reviewed the proposal on Tuesday night. The plan—combining former orchard land and nearby parkland—will add trails and picnic pavilions for quiet outdoor use and will be discussed further at an upcoming community meeting before the final vote.  Loudoun Now
  • Loudoun officials outlined new youth drug abuse reduction efforts as youth overdoses dropped sharply last year after rising in 2022 and 2023. Officials said—citing these improvements—that they will expand current measures to further reduce overdoses this year.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • Loudoun County Transit is changing Sterling Route 323 to add new stops that improve access to essential services — including a stop on Glenn Drive for Women Giving Back — Loudoun Hunger Relief’s food pantry. The changes start Oct. 1 and the route will continue to serve key spots such as Sterling Library and the Community Center.  Blue Ridge Leader
