- ➤ After nearly 100 years of service, Abernethy & Spencer Greenhouse & Garden Center in Purcellville held a ribbon‐cutting on Sept 26 at 3:30 p.m. to mark its 100th anniversary and show off renovated spaces that include a restored conservatory—now a shop, cafe, library, and orchid garden—with weekend events still ongoing. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Leesburg will mark its anniversary this October with a history pop-up—267 years have passed since its founding was ratified by Virginia’s colonial governor. The event will celebrate the town’s long heritage and educate residents about its origins. Loudoun Times-Mirror
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Patrick Henry College, a small liberal arts Christian school in Purcellville, was ranked 107 nationally by US News and World Report this week—gaining 29 points from its first ranking and earning praise for its top moot court program. The school, founded in 2000 with 425 students on a 119-acre campus, is known for high LSAT scores and multiple national moot court championships. WTOP
- ➤ The Loudoun County School Board got a one-week extension from the U.S. Department of Education to work out a deal with federal officials — it now has until October 3 to reply. The board will meet on Sept. 30 to discuss the required actions after a Title IX violation was found. Loudoun Now

- ➤ Stacker compiled a ranking of Virginia’s hottest Septembers since 1895 using data from the National Centers for Environmental Information—September 1921 had the highest average at 73°F with other record months showing detailed highs, lows and rainfall totals. - ➤ Loudoun County property owners must pay their personal property taxes by Oct. 6th. Loudoun Times-Mirror
- ➤ Loudoun County’s Board of Supervisors voted to authorize a study for a historical marker that will honor Page Wallace—a 25-year-old Black man lynched in February 1880 near Point of Rocks along the Potomac River—and mark the third such county effort. County staff will work with local groups—Heritage Commission, Loudoun Freedom Center and the NAACP—to plan the marker’s details. WTOP
