COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Loudoun Chamber of Commerce will host its fourth annual Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility Summit on October 16 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Belmont Country Club — the summit will focus on promoting inclusive practices among local groups.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • The Leesburg Diversity Commission and LAWS Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services will co-host a ceremony at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 on the Town Green in front of Town Hall at 25 West Market Street to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month—guest speakers including Mayor Kelly Burk and Chief of Police Thea Pirnat will honor victims while local organizations staff resource tables, and if weather is bad the event will move inside.  Blue Ridge Leader

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new restaurant named Pakos Fresh Mex opened this weekend in the food court at Dulles Town Center in Loudoun—taking over the space once used by Popeyes. Its menu features tacos, quesadillas, pupusas, and nachos, and the owners also run food trucks and a restaurant in Alexandria.  The Burn
  • Loco Lion Brewery on a 26-acre site at 36577 Heskett Lane in Hillsboro held a sneak preview event with a ribbon cutting by local officials on Saturday — friends and family sampled new beers — and will open its doors for a British-American themed tasting room and outdoor patio on Saturday, October 4.  The Burn

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Loudoun County Art Advisory Committee will open the Black and White art show at Gallery One in the government center on Oct. 7. The exhibit displays black and white drawings and photos from local artists and will be open until Oct. 31 with viewings Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday until 6 p.m.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • On Sept. 25, Loudoun Preservation Society and the Joint Architectural Review Board held an awards ceremony at the Birkby House in Leesburg to honor historic projects and property owners, and they recognized Gayle and Thomas DeLashmutt as Preservationists of the Year for their care of Oak Hill — their family estate being the last privately owned presidential home. Five grants were awarded to support restorations and conservation efforts at sites including Bluemont Academy and Oatlands.  Loudoun Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Adam Fuhrmann, a 2007 graduate of Heritage High School in Leesburg, was selected by NASA for the 2025 Astronaut Candidate Class as one of 10 candidates chosen among thousands of applicants. He reported to Houston earlier this month—he will begin nearly two years of training for missions to low-Earth orbit, the Moon, and Mars.  Inside Nova
  • Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk will meet residents at Robeks Juice for the town's next 'Meet the Mayor' event on Oct. 8, scheduled from 11 a.m. — 1 p.m.  Loudoun Times-Mirror
  • The Town of Leesburg installed a new public piano at Mervin Jackson Park Friday morning—designed with a protective piano hat, surveillance, and a sign to stop play after 10 p.m.—after the December 2024 piano was vandalized. The new piano has a more muffled sound to protect its quality and preserve its appearance.  Loudoun Now
  • The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors removed a segment of Gloucester Parkway between Belmont Ridge Road and Cochran Mill Road from the Countywide Transportation Plan during a Sept 10 public hearing—this change eliminates the planned eastern extension including the bridge over Goose Creek while keeping other road improvements to ease future traffic.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • Loudoun County seeks nominations for the Big Tree Registry to document the largest trees in the community—this program includes 20 trees and eight champion trees, such as a Shumard oak in Algonkian Regional Park. Residents can submit nominations online to help note the community’s urban tree canopy.  Loudoun County
