Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 6th of October.
Good morning, Leesburg.
🎭 Culture
Loudoun’s Battle of the Bands gives teen musicians a chance to perform live as Loudoun Youth Inc., the Youth Advisory Council, and county Parks, Recreation and Community Services organize the event.
The application is available—online through Friday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m.— and the contest is limited to 30 acts.
🎓 Education
Loudoun County students had SOL pass rates higher than state averages in most subjects but English Learner groups struggled with much lower scores.
LCPS officials said raising cut scores in math and reading may make tests harder — they warned the new standards could challenge students if the changes do not work as planned.
🏛️ Government
Loudoun County Treasurer Henry C.
Eickelberg testified at Rock Ridge High School on Sept. 29 to urge the commission to ensure Dominion Energy’s proposed Golden to Mars transmission line project strengthens the regional grid and protects local communities. He recommended the commission consider underground or hybrid options in residential areas—measures that would preserve community character and limit disputes.
