COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sterling-based DryHome Roofing and Siding is accepting nominations until Nov. 30 for its 24th annual Free Roof for the Holidays program + the effort will offer free roof repairs to families in need. Nominations are now open to help local homeowners secure a safer roof.  Loudoun Times-Mirror

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Loudoun County Public Schools reported a $7 million shortfall in its operating fund and nearly $26 million in its healthcare fund from lower enrollment and rising claim costs. The division raised premiums by 12% effective Jan. 1 and plans a further hike in 2027 to add extra funds—officials said extra measures like targeted spending cuts or hiring freezes may be needed if federal funding lapses—to help protect student programs.  Loudoun Now
  • LEA officials filed an unfair labor practice complaint against LCPS after bargaining talks reached a dead end, and a mediator will help both sides work toward an agreement. LCPS said negotiations continue and the process may affect the budget as ratification is required by November.  Loudoun Now
  • The Loudoun County School Board held its second FY27 budget session on Oct. 14 and projected a 4.6% increase to cover higher staffing costs and new investments. The board reviewed key expenses like a teacher pay raise, extra support for special education, and planned hires as falling enrollment may affect state funding.  Loudoun Now

  • Loudoun County will host an electronics recycling event on Saturday, October 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Leesburg Park and Ride (fees are charged for televisions, desktop computer monitors and on-site hard drive destruction upon request).  Loudoun County
  • Loudoun County is holding a public information meeting on Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Round Hill Elementary School—attendees will get details on plans to add 130 acres to Franklin Park and on the rezoning process for park and recreation use.  Loudoun County

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Families are moving away from the D.C. region, and Loudoun County lost 101 young adults from 2023 to 2024 due to high housing costs and limited three-bedroom homes — experts say remote work and affordability pressures are leading families to seek homes in more affordable nearby areas — challenging the county’s housing market.  WTOP
