BUSINESS NEWS

  • Thompson Restaurants will close Sterling’s Velocity Wings at Great Falls Plaza this weekend with Sunday as the final day and will use November to revamp the space for the new Austin Grill that will offer Tex-Mex dishes. The restaurant will serve items such as egg rolls, tacos, fajitas, smoked brisket nachos, and barbecue wings — its patio will be redesigned as a margarita garden and the bar will feature a full selection of tequilas.  The Burn
  • The Chimney Cake Bakery, which has operated since April on Enterprise Boulevard in Sterling, has closed its current spot as it prepares to move to a location in Dulles Town Center. The unique sweetshop is known for its Hungarian chimney cake—a pastry with a crispy, caramelized exterior and a soft interior—and will open its new site in the near future.  The Burn

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A quarterly survey by the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce and Pinkston shows that 49% of 120 local business leaders expect the economy to decline slowly or significantly over the next six months—a jump from 34% in July. Many leaders point to the federal shutdown, tariffs, and inflation as reasons for their growing caution despite some optimism about hiring.  Inside Nova

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Forest Park High School students won 27 medals at the 2025 Olympiada of Spoken Russian—17 gold medals and one Outstanding Achievement Award were earned. Their teacher said the event boosted the students' confidence, and Monica Elias stood out by receiving both a gold medal and the special award for nonnative speakers.  Inside Nova
  • Loudoun County Public Schools hosted its annual workforce summit today at the National Conference Center to show career and technical education programs and feature a panel of students sharing their work experiences. Officials noted that enrollment in the +Job for a Day+ program has doubled and will give 10th and 11th graders a chance to shadow local businesses on Nov 19.  Loudoun Now

  • A community design group proposed steeper climbs and modified nighttime flight paths from Runway 30 at Dulles International Airport to reduce noise over nearby homes — the recommendations will be reviewed by regional officials before possibly being sent to the FAA once federal operations resume.  Loudoun Now
